Dr. Michael Werner - Veterinarian

${name}

Long before Dr. Mike Werner became the owner and medical director of Brodie Animal Hospital, he has shown a lifelong love and passion for animal welfare.

Dr. Werner has been the owner and medical director of Brodie Animal Hospital since 1987, which is considered one of the finest veterinary practices in Central Texas.

He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), Texas Veterinary Medical Association, and the Capital Area Veterinary Medical Association.

His first experience in veterinary medicine was in 1971 as a kennel assistant at Ben White Animal Hospital while a student at Crockett High School in Austin. Despite the then-princely wage of $1.25 per hour, he fell in love with veterinary medicine. He has followed his passion for the care and well-being of animals ever since. As a teenager, he held positions as an assistant, a technician, and receptionist at five different animal hospitals in Central Texas. With a focus on becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Werner received an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science with Magna Cum Laude Honors, then his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Texas A&M in 1979. During his university studies, Dr. Werner recognized the importance of working with an AAHA practice. While attending and interviewing at an AAHA conference he was fortunate to receive 10 offers from veterinary practices from around the United States. He chose a top-rated AAHA hospital in Tampa, Florida. While there, and to gain additional expertise, he augmented his regular day practice by taking emergency hospital shifts. In 1983 he and his wife, Stephanie, returned to Texas when Dr. Werner accepted a position as the manager/medical director of two emergency veterinary hospitals located north of Houston.

Dr. Werner has a keen passion for education. Calling himself a "continuing education junkie" he attends between 60 and 90 hours of CE seminar per year.

In addition to deep knowledge of the many facets of small animal veterinary medicine, Dr. Werner is also keenly interested in animal oncology, dermatology, and endocrinology.

Dr. Werner is extremely proud of the top-flight team of Doctors and staff that choose to dedicate their efforts to animal care and welfare at Brodie Animal Hospital, which now celebrates 33 years as a certified AAHA hospital.

Dr. Werner could not have accomplished his career goals without the unflagging help and support of his wife Stephanie. The two were high school sweethearts at Crockett High School. Dr. Werner's partner in all things Stephanie manages the business elements of Brodie Animal Hospital. Stephanie and Dr. Werner have two sons, one a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, and the other a Pastor of a church in Dripping Springs.

When not working, and spending time together, the couple enjoys their family, including nine grandchildren. Dr. Werner plays in handball tournaments throughout the year and likes to spend time with Blaze, their border collie.
